HOW TO MAKE A GREEN SMOOTHIE
Green smoothies are usually made with dark leafy greens, fruits, plant-based milk or water, and some healthy fats. Dark leafy greens that work well in smoothies are spinach, kale, arugula, romaine lettuce, and swiss chard. They are so much easier to digest when pureed in a smoothie because pureeing breaks down the fiber and cellulose. This means more bioavailable nutrients for your body.
If you grow fruits and vegetables yourself, that’s fantastic. However, if you are buying veggies from a farmer’s market, make sure those leafy greens are organic and pesticide-free.
If you want your smoothie to be really healthy, choose lower-sugar fruits such as berries, kiwis or Granny Smith apples…
And most importantly, don’t forget to add some healthy fats. Certain nutrients are fat-soluble, meaning your body needs those healthy fats to properly absorb them. In addition, healthy fats can make your smoothie extra filling. Just add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, half an avocado, chia seeds, flax seeds, flaxseed oil, seed or nut butter and you are good to go.
