Notes on ingredients

You can find a complete list of ingredients with exact amounts and instructions in the recipe card below.
  • Frozen bananas: Ripe spotty bananas are the best choice for this recipe as they will add natural sweetness. Check How to freeze bananas.
  • Mango: Choose ripe mangoes that are slightly soft to the touch. To determine if a mango is ripe, apply firm but gentle pressure to the fruit. If it gives slightly when squeezed, it is ripe and ready to eat.
  • Avocado: Choose ripe avocados that are slightly soft to the touch. Remove the skin and pit before adding the avocado to your smoothie.
  • Fresh spinach: Baby spinach is a milder and more tender variety of spinach that is perfect for smoothies. It has a sweeter taste and a softer texture than mature spinach, making it easier to blend into your smoothie.
  • Hemp seeds: Hemp seeds are an excellent choice for adding flavor and nutrition to smoothies.
  • Maca powder: Adding maca powder to your smoothies is easy and delicious! Always choose a high-quality maca powder from reputable sources.
  • Spirulina powder: The best way to ensure you’re getting pure, clean spirulina is to always opt for an organic certified product.

Tips and how-tos

How to freeze bananas

Bananas are best frozen when they’re ripe or slightly overripe (spotty). Here is how to do it:

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Peel your bananas and cut into 1.5 – 2 cm thick slices.
  • Arrange them in a single layer on the baking sheet and freeze until the bananas are solid, for about 2 hours.
  • Once frozen, peel the banana slices off of the parchment paper, and place them in a freezer-safe container.
  • Put them back into the freezer until ready to use.
  • Make sure you seal the container properly to prevent them from turning brown.
  • Store bananas in the freezer for up to 3 months.
